A chance to make
a difference in your own special way! Be a volunteer!
PPIS Helpline
was established in 1999 to help those seeking
information, advice and help via the telephone.
All our helpliners have to go through various
training programmes before they are qualified
to man the line.
We take this opportunity
in inviting you to attend the training programmes
schedule as attached.
The objective
of the training is to equip helpliners with professional
skills and values so that they are able to handle
incoming calls effectively. Our training courses
are designed specifically for them.
For enquiries
and confirmation of attendance, please call or

What
to expect from volunteering & training at
PPIS Helpline
Helpline service faces a rigorous training programme,
to maintain a professional service. Responding
to people in need is one of the most challenging
tasks you could ever do, but it is also one of
the most rewarding.
We
look for :
People who are prepared to work hard at learning
the sophisticated skills of quality helpline service.
People who are
prepared to make a firm commitment.
People who believe
in service:
People who fit
with PPIS Helpline's philosophy of acceptance,
compassion and caring.
People who understand
the importance of caring for themselves as the
foundation for helping and caring for others.
People who believe
in people.
PPIS Helpline
believes that being part of our service is a two-way
benefit. We expose our trainees to growth and
development, teach new skills, challenge them
to change, support personal endeavours and affirm
success. We work alongside to help them become
an empowered, responsible mature adult with a
strong sense of identity. In return, as a volunteer,
PPIS Helpline asks for time, energy, enthusiasm,
intellect and commitment.
Commitment
:
You are invited to commit to:
A minimum of one
year length of service after the training or 168
hrs of shift Duties.
Attendance at
our skills upgrading programme.
The initial training
has a focus on self-awareness and this continues
throughout the weekly sessions that follow. Weekly
sessions concentrate on different micro skills,
i.e. active listening, summarising, questioning,
exploration, assessment and referral. There is
journal writing throughout the training.
