Background and Rationale

The social service programmes that are run at the An-Nisaa’ Centre in Eunos Crescent focus to empower women and female teens.

 The services include:

 PPIS Helpline Service

 Established in 1999, the helpline service is manned by a pool of trained volunteers and aims to: 

  • provide emotional support b lending a listening ear to caller particularly women and female teens in distress .

  • provide information and referrals to appropriate services provided by PPIS or other agencies.

PPIS Teenz Club for Girls

Established on 1 March 2003, the club targets specifically the female teens between the ages of 13 to 19 years.

The Club serves to empower the female teens and offers an avenue for them to participate in a range of positive activities that would help them develop

§         A sense of competence – being able to do something well

§         A sense of usefulness – having something to contribute

§         A sense of belonging – being a member of a group and community

§         A sense of power – having the ability to navigate over their future 

Core activities run by the club include:  

  • Life Skills programmes via camps, workshops

  • Outdoor and Recreation such as trekking, adventure learning

  • Drop-in days for studying, social interaction among members and chat sessions at the centre equipped with internet facility

  • Volunteering opportunities within PPIS Centres. with other voluntary welfare organisations and overseas

PROGRAMME GOAL AND OBJECTIVES

Goal
To reach out to and support teen callers especially female teens who are at risk of pregnancy and delinquency.

Objectives :
(i) To provide a listening ear and relief to teen callers who are in distress.
(ii) To refer teen callers to the drop-in centres for follow-up.
(iii) To empower teens in making the right decision to address their needs.
(iv) To provide an avenue where teens can reach out for help at an early stage.

TARGET GROUP

Female teens experiencing distress especially those who are at risk of teen pregnancy.

FUTURE DIRECTIONS

(i) Recruitment of NURTeensLINE volunteers
 Future plans will be to recruit young volunteers to secure the line.

(ii) Publicity
Extensive publicity for the NURTeensLINE number is crucial to be able to outreach to more youths in need.

• Awareness and education programme for empowerment of Muslim women

An education programme that seeks to raise awareness on issues relating to rights of Muslim women in marriage, divorce and inheritance in Singapore. The programme will not only target the Muslims but also the non-Muslim sectors within the legal and social service providers. The programme aims to :

  • serve as a catalyst for the empowerment of Muslim women
  • bridge information, knowledge and service gaps
  • encourage academic, professional, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and social growth of Muslim women.
  • engage non-Muslims and provide information and a forum to answer issues and misconceptions relating to Islam and its practices.

• Marital Counseling for divorcing couples (in Collaboration with Syariah Court)
